General questions about websites

One of the most common questions I get asked by clients is what’s the difference between a website, website hosting and a domain name.

The way I like to explain it, is that  a website is a group of files and the hosting is the land that you will put those files on.  The domain is the address to find those files on the land.

A responsive website refers to a website that will adapt according to the device which you view it on.

That means whether or not you view a website on a mobile device or a desktop the experience should be the same.

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. SEO is the process of making your website appear higher in Google’s search results.

An SSL certificate encrypts the data that flows in and out of your website. You can tell if a website is secure by the padlock in a browsers URL bar.
